Freshly Ground in San Francisco

Last night South African band Freshly Ground performed in San Francisco. It was a full house with mostly South Africans in the audience, I think because everybody was singing along to the music.

 The band was great, they had the audience to their feet dancing to their beats. I had a great time listening and dancing to the music and being surrounded by fellow South Africans too. 

By the end of the night they ended of with the world cup song which was a perfect end to a great night.

Happy 4th of July!!!

Happy 4th of July!!! I managed to go a to parade yesterday and watch how Americans celebrate their Independence day. It was fun to see how people get involve and just come together and celebrate. Which was no surprise to me at all because one thing I've learned since living in the USA, holidays are taken seriously!!! And of course a reason to party!!!  

Stars and Stripes

I can't believe that we are half way through the year already, time is flying by so fast. I'm so thankful , I had a great 2011 so far and excited for the rest of the year. I'm looking forward to the weekend and it's 4th of July weekend as well which means an extra day off.

I must say that Americans really put a lot into holidays, walking around in the stores you know what holiday it is, you cant miss the stars, stripes, red, white and blue everywhere. From ideas for the barbecue, party decor to what what to wear and of course 4th of July sales everywhere. Since it's my second year to celebrate 4th of July I'm hoping to see some sort of 4th of July parade and see more fireworks. Swedish Midsummer

This has been a busy weekend, it started with watching South African jazz legend Hugh Masekela perform in Oakland on Thursday and Friday. Then there was San Francisco Pride Parade and watching One Republic perform in the Golden Gate park today, but the one thing I do want  to get to, is the Swedish Midsummer celebration on Saturday.

 I had the pleasure of celebration the Swedish Midsummer festival with some of the girls, it was so much fun. We ate Swedish food, played some games and a I learned a few things about Swedish culture that I didn't know before. 

The Swedish had some yummy snacks we then went to Lake Temescel to play some games. girls Sandra, Anna and Kasja did an amazing job of everything the, food, decor and games. After we  It was like having a piece of Sweden here in the USA.

Style Inspiration - Pleats

I love these pleated maxi skirts, I've seen some of my favourite blogger wear them. I like that it's  made of chiffon so it just flows on the body and easy to wear.

From Paris with love...

I have just been watching reruns of the Gossip Girl episodes shot in Paris and I want to go there. Paris has always been one of the places on my list to see, I'm so fascinated by the language, culture, people, the Eiffel Tower and of course Paris is one of the fashion capitals of the world.

 Now that  I have a friend there, Dougna (I miss you!!!). I have an even bigger reason to visit, I hope it will be soon.

Adiós Barbara

One of the things I had to get used to here in the USA is saying good bye to the friends I had made here and soon I will leave too. Friday night it was a farewell for Barbara, she is from Argentina who I hope to one day visit there. She is also the reason I took a Spanish class, even the though my Spanish is bad I can say a few words. I met them at the Elephant Bar, who I was by the way late for and then we went to San Francisco.

It was a nice evening with some funny moments like the the topic of soccer, Maradona or Pele.. who's the best... a question I don't have the answer for. I will miss Barbara, she has a warm personality and fun to be around. She is also an aspiring photographer, who takes amazing pictures. ( Check out her Blog.)

Sunset

The past few days the weather has just been so gloomy and cold, so I just wanted to be reminded of the nice sunshine that should be here and the Californian summer I'm looking forward too. These pictures were taken at Lake Merritt in Oakland on one of those lazy Sunday afternoons. I can't wait..

California Dream

I don't know why but for the past few weeks I have been really homesick, the funny thing is I was really surprised that I managed to stay here in California for more than a year already without wanting to go home. I think maybe it's  because I will be back in South Africa in soon so I'm missing my family more.

I know being able to live in California of all place was the last thing I has ever thought I would be able to, so I decided to think of all the things that I love about being in California and that I will miss.

All the wonderful friends are made here from France, Brazil, Sweden, Argentina , Germany, Denmark, Norway and of course USA and South Africa( I hope I didn't leave out anybody). I hope I will be able to visit them all. The stores I come to love, the places I visited,  San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge, yummy chocolates and Starbucks!!!
