Student Fashion Show

The past weekend I attended a fashion show by the students of Academy of Art University in San Francisco. There were some interesting collaborations between the Fashion, Textile, Knitwear and Fine Art Sculpture design students.

I had a seat in the front row and from where I was sitting the quality and construction of the garments were excellent.

There were a mix of garments and styling was appropriate for each range gracing the catwalk. There was definitely some amazing talent.

Santa Cruz

The past weekend I was fortunate enough to spend the two days in Santa Cruz, about one and half hours drive from Oakland. It's a beach town on the coast of Northern California.

Its was a nice place to visit, I could see it was all about having fun in the sun. The people seemed so laid back, playing volley ball on the beach, surfing, some trying to catch some fish and of course catching a tan. The boardwalk was just a nice place to walk around, with little shops where you could find just about anything you needed for the beach and we were lucky enough to be

staying in walking distance from the boardwalk.

The Sunday I tried my luck at kayaking, seeing that it was my first time I was a bit nervous. Thinking what if the kayak tip over, well it didn't and it was nice to be out at see. The highlight of kayaking was seeing a whale so close to us. Even though it was amazing, I was so scared thinking what if it comes too close and I fall out the kayak. The weekend was great, hanging out on the beach and the weather was just perfect. Thanks girls!!

Easter in Newcastle

The past Easter weekend I had the opportunity to spend some time with my host family in Newcastle, a town near Sacramento. We spend the night at their home, who lives on some sort of mini ranch I think. I  watched the kids hunt for Easter eggs, then we walked to the barn to feed the horses.

 I then spend some time at the lake, which is just next in the backyard I must ad. Even though we just spend the night , it felt good to be out of the city and just enjoy the calm feeling of being surrounded by nature.

Let it shine

If you want to add some shine to your wardrobe or outfit, sparkle and glitter is the way to go. I suggest keeping it to a minimal and not overdoing it. Go for one item at the time like maybe some sparkly shoes, it will definitely make a statement.

Go Cal

Today was such a nice day to spend outside, it was so California. I spend part of the day in Berkeley, the home of "Cal", University of California . It was their open day, so we just walked around the the streets of Berkeley and the campus area.

With all the blue and yellow, the students, the parties outside, the fraternities, it all made me wish I was a student there. We then had lunch at one of the local restaurants, which was just a nice atmosphere and the food was really good, a place I would recommend. 

                

                  

  

The Conscious Collection

Today I walked past H&M and I couldn't help but stop and look at the store window. All the garments in the window were white and all of them were made out of recycled materials like organic cotton and recycled polyester. It is called The Conscious Collection, this is great because they are thinking about the environment.

This collection is perfect for Spring/Summer because the fabrics are so light weight and of course white is the new black. The bonus is that the garments start at only $14.95 (about R105) for a the shorts and top individually and only $19.95 (R140) for the dress, which I plan to own.

My Biker jacket

I was looking through some of my pictures I have taken over the past year in the USA, the one thing I noticed was, that was wearing my black biker jacket in quite a few of them. I love my jacket, I bought it a few months ago at H&M  for $40 (about R280), I wear it with so many different looks. The jacket is definitely one of my best buys of the past year.

California Sun

The weather the past weekend has been amazing, spring is definitely here. I was once again reminded why I love California. I spend my Sunday afternoon at  Lake Temescel with Sandra, who was tanning away in the sun. We just relaxed around the lake while trying to get the geese away from our food. The scenery is amazing, and it's only five minutes away.
